Annual Awards Day 2014

Mount Sion SecoNEWS4750ndary School’s Annual Awards Ceremony 2014 took place recently, marking some of the wide selection of achievements attained by its students.
Masterfully compered as usual by Deputy Principal, Mr. Doherty, proceedings began with an opening address by Principal, Mr. John McArdle. In welcoming everybody to the occasion Mr. McArdle praised all members of the school community for again working together over the previous year – the fruits of which are being recognised and honoured at this celebration.
Mr. Pat McEvoy, Chairman, Board of Management, emphasised the merits of hard work and noted how well many of our past pupils have done in life – most recently and notably Mr. NEWS4814Dan Mulhall, currently Ireland’s Ambassador at the Court of St. James.
Mr. McEvoy congratulated and praised all the award winners. He thanked the staff for their efforts in ensuring that the school is a happy and safe place for young people to pursue their second level education, as it grows and develops into the future.
Our Guest Speaker this year was Mr. John Norris of Genzyme (Waterford) – a company with which the school has a unique and mutually enhancing partnership – and of which both parties are very proud.
In his address John recalled his days as a pupil in the school and how it provided the foundation for his later – very varied – education and work career. With true industrial-perspective insight he emphasised how “input now, determines output in the future”.
